In Q2, Norilsk Nickel reduced nickel production by 10.2% and increased palladium production by 19.5%

In the second quarter of 2014, Norilsk Nickel reduced the nickel production by 10.2% as compared with the first quarter to 60.9 thousand tons, the company reports.

In the first six months, the nickel production fell by 7.7% to 128.7 thousand tons. "The main reasons for the decline were the decrease in the volume of low-margin tolling operations at the Kola mining and metallurgical company and the reduction of metal production by the foreign companies of the Group," - the company notes.

In the second quarter, the copper production grew by 3.7% as compared with the previous quarter and amounted to 93.7 thousand tons. According to the company, the production growth is connected with a higher proportion of copper ore, processed at the Zapolyarny subsidiary, as well as increased sales of copper cake to external enterprises by Norilsk Nickel Harjavalta. In the first six months, the copper production fell by 0.8% to 184.1 thousand tons.
