Export of scrap metal from the Ukraine is backed up

In January- April of 2014, 238.1 thousand tons of ferrous scrap metal for $75.2 million were taken out of the country, while there wasn’t export in the same period of the previous year, Ministry of Income and Fees reports. As market participants report, the export is carried out within the quotas, allocated in June of 2013.

Since the procedure for the quotas allocation last year was hidden, there is official data about export restrictions and their distribution among market participants. According to head of the state-owned enterprise Ukrpromvneshekspertiza’s marketing department Yuri Dobrovolsky, the quota implied export of 1.2 million tons of scrap metal from June 2013 to June 2014. The expert says that 250 thousand tons of 500 thousand tons, distributed in June of the previous year, were sold abroad. Donetsk company Ukrmet (it is associated with Andrei Kiselev) received the right to export the lion's share of this amount in 2013 - 335 thousand tons.
