Mariupol metallurgical plant n.a. Iliych has abandoned the outdated open-hearth method of steel production and will focus on the development of converter production. All six open-hearth furnaces were decommissioned. As a result, emissions of nitrogen compounds into the atmosphere decreased by almost 68%, and dust fell by 12%.
Stoppage of the open-hearth process is one of the most important obligations of Metinvest to improve the environmental situation in Mariupol.
