NLMK has saved 425 mln roubles by means of implementation of coal injection technology

NLMK in 2014 saved 425 mln roubles due to the application of the technology of coal injection at its 2 furnaces at the Lipetsk production site.

The technology presupposes a ombined supply of natural gas and coal dust to the blast furnace as a result of which the expenditure of gas and coke reduces. The replacement of expensive raw materials (natural gas and coke) by a cheaper analogue (mixture of thermal coal) allows to reduce the prime cost of cast iron making and consequently steel production but save the rates of quality and efficiency.

The resource saving technology started to be implemented in Russia in the Lipetsk region in 2013. By the present time the plant has successfully completed the guarantee tests and has turned to the industrial operation of the coal injection units at the blast furnaces #5 (3 mln tons a year) and #4 (2 mln tons a year).

In the process of testing of the coal injection units the expenditure of coal at these furnaces fell by 10%, natural gas- by 40%.
