Steel pipes output in Russia fell by 12% in 2016

​Steel pipes output in Russia fell by 12% in 2016, the head of the CIS and Russian markets analysis of OMK, V. Motskalo, said.

According to the company, in 2016 LDP consumption will fall by 21.1% to 2,600 thousand tons, shaped pies – by 6% to 2,050 thousand ton, oil and gas pipes – by 4.2% to 1,950 thousand tons, OCTG pipes – by 7% to 1,832 thousand tons, water and gas pipes –by 15.3% to 850 thousand tons. Thus the pipe market of Russia will fall by 12% to 9.5 mln tons.

OMK will save its stake of 16-17% producing about 1.6 mln tons.

Among the main tendencies of the year V. Motskalo named:

  • Ambiguity in the consuming sectors pressurizes the pipe market
  • Strengthening of competition in regional sales markets
  • Working in the conditions of high volatility of prices for metals and pipes
  • Problems of sales in foreign markets
  • Growth of capacities, promotion of products from new technological lines to the market, shutdown of old capacities
  • Focus on the efficiency of the entire chain of the business.
