1700 miners to be temporarily laid off at the largest Mongolian mine

Rio Tinto will lay off 1700 miners at the copper deposit Uyu-Tolgoi, which is considered to be one of the largest in the world, the AFP reported on August, 15.

The temporary reduction of the staff will concern workers and contractors, who work at the underground part of the mine. Rio Tinto emphasized that all personnel solutions are made in accordance with the local and international labor legislation. According to the corporation, about 11 thousand persons work at the deposit in the Gobi Desert, up to 90% of them are citizens of Mongolia.
