Operations at SAZ are stable
The Sayanogorsk Aluminium plant (SAZ, part of UC RusAl) produced 595 thousand tons of aluminium in January-September 2014 (-3.5 thousand tons y-o-y). The reduction of the production volume is due to the updating of the casting machine No2 and the deliberate policy of UC RusAl on the reduction of aluminium production in order to decrease stock resources, the current aluminium deficit and the aluminium price growth. In 2014, SAZ focused not on production volume but on the efficiency of its production.
“In 2014 we both improve the current technology and carry out large scale updating, the managing director of SAZ, A.Savchenko said. We are about to reach 100% production in terms of alloy at SAZ and gradually move to alloy production at the Khakas Aluminium Smelter (KhAZ). We update the second casting complex at KhAZ. We will be able to produce new types of high-margin products after the completion of the updating. We also increase the output of popular products owing to our operating improvement. Next year, for instance, we will be able to produce alloys in extrusion billet of up to 170 thousand tons. After the completion of updating of the second casting complex at SAZ we will be able to manufacture alloy of 5xxx series and sheet ingot of 6xxx series. We did not produce them before. They are in great demand on the market and used in car industry and the output of tins. We take into account the requirements of the customers.”
