Coal supplier from South Africa doesn’t want to deal with the Ukraine

SteelMont Trading has refused to continue the supply of coal from South Africa to the Ukraine. This was reported by director of Ukrinterenergo, Vladimir Zinevych at the press conference.

On August 19th, state-owned company Ukrinterenergo concluded a contract with the British company SteelMont Trading on anthracite coal supply from South Africa at the price of $86 per ton.

It was assumed that under the contract up to 1 million tons of coal would be supplied to the Ukraine. The first batch of coal was delivered in late October. However, two weeks later Ukrinterenergo stated that the supplier refused to continue the cooperation.

The reason for the refusal was both financial and reputational risks that the company wasn’t willing to bear, dealing with the state-owned company of the Ukraine. The Director of Ukrinterenergo Vladimir Zinevych commented on the situation at the press conference:
