RZhD stops buying foreign rails
In January 2014 RZhD stopped the buying of foreign rails, a spokesman for a railway monopoly said. In late 2013, “Trading House RZhD” (a structure of RZhD, engaged in rails purchase) thought about the possibility of buying rails from Japan Nippon Steel in 2014, but decided not to do that.
RZhD is about to buy rails from Evraz and Mechel instead of foreign ones. A source, close to Evraz said that RZhD purchased a lot of Japan rails during the reconstruction and updating of the rail-and-structural steel mill at the EVRAZ Consolidated West-Siberian Iron-and-Steel works (Evraz ZSMK). Since 2013 the company started producing 100-meters rails at its enterprise. A spokesman for Evraz refused to give any comments.
