Rusal has started to extract bauxites in South America

​The total bauxite reserves at the Kurubuka-22 deposit are assessed at 30 mln tons.

UC Rusal has launched the industrial extraction of bauxites at the Kurubuka-22 deposit in the 10th administrative area of the Republic of Guyana. The President of Guyana, D. Ramotar, and CEO of Rusal, V. Soloviev, were present.

Rusal develops the Kurubuka-22 deposit from 2013 and has invested over $25 mln into it. According to experts, the total bauxite reserves at this mine make up 30 mln tons.

“The bauxite company of Guyana is an asset of strategic importance for us. The development of the Kurubuka-22 deposit is held in the framework of Rusal’s strategy on strengthening of vertical integration and providing of raw materials safety of aluminium production by means of using its own raw materials. The launch of a new deposit will allow to provide the company’s clay plants with high-quality bauxites for many years to come”, V. Soloviev said.
