The 270 millionth ton of steel produced at ChMK

The 270 millionth ton of steel was produced on the eve of the Day of Russia at the Chelyabinsk Metallurgical Plant, a part of Mechel.
A remarkable event occurred in the oxygen-converter shop, which produces more than 70% of the whole steel at the plant.
Today the ChMP’s steelmaking production is represented by three workshops: oxygen converter shop (OCS), electric steel shops (ESS) № 2 and № 6. In accordance with the program of technical re-equipment of the plant, the basic facilities are modernized and updated. We must remember the most significant investment projects that were implemented in recent years. In 2010, a facility for production of high-quality and stainless steel in a slab steel continuous casting plant № 2 and secondary refining facilities was launched in ESS-6. Due to this the assortment was significantly expanded, and the consumption of raw materials and energy was decreased.
