CherMK “Severstal” increased special ship-building steel shipment in 2010
The Cherepovetsk metallurgical combine, the main steel asset of the division “Severstal Rossiyskaya Stal” increased the shipment of special ship-building steel by twice, up to 5.4 thousand tons in 2010 against 2009, D.Goroshkov, sales manager of CherMK “Severstal” said.
CherMK “Severstal” is the exclusive supplier of special high-resistance steel to the two largest enterprises of the military sector of Russia, OAO “Production Association “Sevmash” and OAO “Admiralteiskoe verfi”. The combine increased special steel supplies to these enterprises by 22% in 2009 against 2008.
An assortment of special ship-building steel, used in the manufacture of ship hull, is produced at mill 2800 (the industrial site of CherMK) and the mill 5000 (Kolpino, St.Petersburg). In 2010, such metal output at these capacities made up 89% and 98%, respectively.
The increase in the shipment is due to taking decisions in steel industry, primary processes optimization, connected with rolling, thermal processing and sheet dressing in the output of hot-rolled mill products.
CherMK plans to develop special ship-building steel technology in a converter plant in 2011. Steelmaking is carried out in electric furnaces, to date. It will allow the combine to increase the output of the metal and provide more flexible delivery schedule in case of key clients demand growth.
Besides, CherMK invests into the development of the output of these products. In particular, the implementation of one of the investment programmes “The reconstruction of gas cutting of thick plate complex” of 17.5 million roubles value is almost completed at LPTs-1 (heat-treatment furnace site) at present. It will allow the increasing throughput capacity at the site of the processing line.
