MMK has launched the 9th blast furnace after modernization
It was shut down for capital repair with technical retooling of casting beds in late December 2015.
This is the most productive blast furnace of MMK with the useful volume of 2,014 cubic m, was constructed at MMK in 1964. At that moment it was the largest blast furnace in Europe. In the Soviet times the 9th blast furnace was nominated a few times. For its more than 50-year history the furnace cast about 80 mln tons of cast iron.
In 2008 the capital repair was completed at the blast furnace with the installation of the bell-less top of tray type produced by Paul Vyurt company. In the process of the current repair the following works were held: cleaning out and preparation of iron receiver, fettle replacement, armor plate replacement etc. The main changes were held at the casting beds. The general contractor of capital repair was United Service Company which held the works within a short time – 37 days.
