The Ukraine spent $500 mln for Russian coal

​In H1 2016 the Ukraine imported coal from Russia worth $446 mln at the total value of foreign purchases of $678 mln.

Kiev also purchased coal from the USA for $95 mln, Australia – for $43 mln, and from other countries for $92 mln. In general in H1 2016 the Ukraine imported 7.8 mln tons of coal.

The Ukraine increases coal purchase overseas on the background of the fall of its own mining. In 2015 the volume fell by 39% to 39.8 mln tons. Coking coal production fell by half to 8.1 mln tons, thermal coal – by 35% to 31.6 mln tons.

The Minister of Energy of Russia, A. Novak, said that in 2016 a few mln tons of coal will be shipped to the Ukraine. According to him, the announcements of Kiev on the termination of purchase of coal from Russia are not true.

In May the Minister of Energy of the Ukraine, I. Nasalik, said that the country was not planning to purchase coal from Russian until the end of 2016. The representatives of the Ukraine said that the reserves make up 3mln tons, and their volumes will be growing.
