The Ukraine reduced coal mining because of war in the Donbass

In September of this year, coal production decreased by half as compared to September of 2013 - 3.4 million tons against 6.7 million tons. The reason is the stopping by 80% of the mines in the Donbas because of the constant fighting in the region. These disappointing figures significantly affect the operation of the power system of the state, because a half of the power plants work on coal.

In general, in January-September 2014, the coal production decreased by 13% as compared to the same period last year to 53.4 million tons. State mines mined 15.354 million tons of coal, which is by 12.3% less than the result of the first nine months of 2013.
