Interview with Alexandra Buriko: The coming year to be difficult for UC Rusal

The fall in aluminum prices by nearly a quarter since the beginning of the year has led a number of the world manufacturers to a conclusion – China is guilty.

Indeed, in the first 10 months 2015, the production of aluminum in China increased by almost a third, while the global production - by 17%. Exports of aluminum and products based on it are also not far behind. According to recent data, the volume of aluminum, exported from China in November, reached highs - 450 thousand tons (+ 41.5% against October), and in the first 11 months - 4.34 million tons (+ 14.4%). For comparison, a landmark production of UC Rusal for this year is 3.6 million tons of aluminum.

Director of Finance of UC Rusal Alexandra Buriko in an interview to the Interfax told what exactly the Russian aluminum producer concerns about in the issue of China, how the company will repay the debt in the next year and how the UC Rusal’s mood changed regarding the devaluation of the ruble over the year.

- Last year was one of the most successful over the past few years or UC Rusal: refinancing the debts, devaluation of the ruble, the company began making net profit and independently, without dividends from Norilsk Nickel, servicing its debt.
