Gas supply to China may rest on shoulders of Russian taxpayers

Yesterday, during the summit G20 Gazprom and China National Petroleum Corporation (CNPC) signed a next agreement on the supplies of Russian gas to China on the eastern route. The Russian-Chinese gas negotiations have a 20-year history, but their key issue - the price of gas – has remained unresolved. Some analysts don’t see any breakthrough  in this signing and calling it a kind of PR event, which is pleasant for politicians, timed for the summit. Besides, it is possible that Gazprom, guided by geopolitical motives, will give way to China and will supply gas there at below-cost price. And then Russian taxpayers will actually subsidize the monopoly’s export projects – the Nezavisimaya Gazeta writes.
