Shale revolution in the EU: what awaits Gazprom ?
Edited by Rhod Mackenzie
Cologne EWI Institute has presented a scenario of development of unconventional gas production as in Germany, as in the EU until 2035. DW found out possible consequences for Russia.
Even if the European Union states will begin to develop their fields of unconventional and, in particular, shale gas in the near future, short-term effects for the EU energy market shouldn’t been expected. However, by 2035 the share of such gas consumption in the EU could rise to 14%. Suppliers of liquefied natural gas (LNG), as well as Russia and the countries of North Africa, which supply pipeline gas to Europe will show a loss.
