Ankara thinks about alternatives to "Gazprom".
The acute political crisis between Moscow and Ankara has led to the fact that Turkey - the latter growing market of "Gazprom" - followed the example of Europe and began to look for an alternative to Russian gas. Ankara wants to speed up the preparation of new volumes from Azerbaijan to build a pipeline from Kurdistan and thinks about procurement of additional LNG from Qatar. Qatar seems the most realistic option, but according to market participants, the additional purchase of liquefied natural gas for political reasons would lead to financial losses.
The fate of the "Turkish stream" depends on the results of the parliamentary elections in Turkey. Low oil prices which aim at the weakening of the economy of Russia can’t stay for a long time – more than a year or two, he said.
“Despite of all actions, it hasn’t happened, and it is problematic for the West to acknowledge such a situation. Russia has stayed the hardest strike on its economy and it becomes clear the oil weapon – oil price fall – which was crucial for the USSR doesn’t have the same success against the modern Russia. In this sense the economic union of Russia and China leads to serious changes in the world, the strength of which can’t be predicted in full”, Mirovich said.
