Independent information agency: Nothing can save the Bogoslovsky aluminium plant of UC Rusal

The Krasnoturyinsk and Bogoslovsky aluminium plant have become the hot topic again. In September trade unions said, the agreement signed to “save” Bogoslovsky aluminium plant (BAZ) was not actually intended for that.

“It's only wishful thinking on the part of the authorities. They haven’t solved the problem of BAZ. This is the opinion of the experts and workers of BAZ who assessed the actions of all the participants”, Novy Region agency reported. Today these apprehensions have come true.

“The agreement signed on September 16 by the Sverdlovsk Region, UC Rusal, the administration of the subsidiary of SUAL Plc. and the trade union committee of the subsidiary of SUAL Plc. – BAZ-SUAL is not being fulfilled”, Pravda URFO reports.

The authorities of the Sverdlovsk Region note, the negotiations with Rosatom about low tariff went into stalemate. The management of the Mayor’s Office in Krasnoturyinsk says it is almost impossible to save aluminium production at BAZ. Moreover, alumina production can stop in the near future. Besides, 20 people have already been fired since the signing of the contract. On October 30 the fulfillment of the agreement was discussed at the meeting of the committee for industry, innovation policy and entrepreneurship of the Legislative Assembly of the Sverdlovsk Region.

The Chairman of BAZ trade union committee, Nikolai Prokofyev says, the Head of the trade union federation of the Sverdlovsk region, Andrei Vetluzhskikh will deal with the problem of non-fulfillment of the agreement and a letter to the Minister of Economic Development, Andrei Belousov has already been written.

The Regional Minister of Industry, Vladislav Pinayev confirms there are problems with fulfillment of the contract. “The situation in Krasnoturyinsk partially stabilized after signing of the document. However, it is still rather difficult. I believe, this week we’ll prepare the Governor’s application to the PM and ask to help the Ministry of Economic Development, UC Rusal and Rosenergoatom to fulfill the terms of the agreement reached in Krasnoturyinsk and reduce the price of energy for two years”, the Minister said.
