Total and SOCAR prepare Absheron deposit for gas condensate export

​SOCAR starts a new stage of cooperation with Total SA. Total has completed the pre-project works at the Absheron gas condensate deposit at the shelf of the Caspian Sea.

V. Aliev, head of the investment department of SOCAR, said that according to the conditions of the contract signed between the companies in 2009, Total is the operator at the stage of pre-project preparation, however, it is the time to start the operation of the deposit and specialists from Azerbaijan join the project.

We have turned to the 2nd stage and now Total and SOCAR will control the development of the deposit together, experts from Azerbaijan will start working at all the production sites, V. Aliev said.

SOCAR holds 40% in Absheron, Total – 40%, Engie – 20% (previously Gaz de France Suez). The deposit contains 350 bln cubic m of gas and 45 mln tons of gas condensate. The discovered in 2011 Absheron block is located at the depth of 500 m 100 km away from Baku.
