Transportation by Yamal-Europe gas pipeline has been renewed

The natural gas transportation to the European countries by the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline was renewed at 2.05 a.m. on August 30th after the completion of the planned maintenance and repair works, Gazprom OAO reports.

The works at the Yamal-Europe gas pipeline have been held from 10 a.m. August 28th simultaneously in Russia and Poland. Due to that the natural gas transportation was temporarily shut down. The gas supply to the consumers was held by means of raising the volumes of transportation via the Nord Stream gas pipeline. The maintenance and repair works were planned beforehand and agreed with all the parties in 2011.

The Yamal-Europe gas pipeline goes via Russia, Belarus, Poland and Germany. Its construction started in 1994, in 2006 the pipeline reached its projected capacity of 32.96 bln cubic meters of gas a year. The number of compressor stations at the gas pipeline is 14, pipe diameter – 1,420 mm, total length – more than 2 thousand km.

The route starts from the Torzhok gas transport hub in the Tver region where it accepts gas from the “Northern districts of Tyumen region (NDTR) - Torzhok” gas pipeline. The length of the Russian site is 402 km with 3 compressor stations: Rzhevskaya, Kholm-Zhirkovskaya and Smolenskaya.

The length of the Belarus part of the gas pipeline is 575 km. there are 5 compressor stations: Nesvizh, Krupskaya, Slonim, Minsk and Orshanksy. Gazprom is the only owner of the Belarus part of ht gas pipeline.

The Polish site length is 683 km of the linear part and there are 5 compressor stations: Chekhanuv, Shamotuly, Zambruv, Vlotslavek, Kondratki. EuRoPol Gaz holds the Polish site of the gas pipeline (a JV of Gazprom and PGNiG).

The largest Western point of the gas pipeline is the Malnov compressor station in the area of Frankfurt-on-Oder near the German-Polish border where the gas pipeline connects with the YAGAL-Nord gas transport system which in its turn connects it with the gas transport system STEGAL - MIDAL – underground gas storage facility Reden. The owner of the German site of the gas pipeline is Wingas (a JV of Gazprom and Wintershall Holding GmbH).
