The Ukraine to put in question the gas transit issue at Stockholm Arbitration Court

The Ukraine, that is currently in legal action with Gazprom at the Stockholm Arbitration Court on the gas supply issue, is ready to put in question the contract on the transit of the Russian gas to Europe. Naftogas Ukrainy suggested Gazprom reconsider the contract, in particular, the gas transfer delivery points to the Russia-Ukraine border, increasing payment for transit and introducing obligations for transit for Gazprom. Analysts say that Kiev is using the political situation to pressurize Gazprom and creates grounds for itself not to execute its obligations.

On Monday Naftogas Ukrainy sent Gazprom its suggestions about the reconsideration of the gas transit contract, the head of the Ukrainian company, A. Kobolev, said. This 10-year contract was signed in Jan 2009 simultaneously with the gas supply contract which is now put in question by the Ukraine at the Stockholm Arbitration Court.
