Hydraulic unit-16 has been modernized at Zhigulevsky hydro power plant

In the framework of the program of complex modernization of RusHydro and Power Machines the modernization of the hydraulic unit #16 is over at the Zhigulevsky water power plant. The works took 10 months. The turbine of the hydraulic unit was replaced by a new one, which has better design, modern technical characteristics and differs by a high level of ecological safety. The modernization will allow to increase the capacity of the hydraulic unit from 115 mW to 125.5 mW.

The working wheel of the new turbine has 5 blades (the previous one had 6) and is meant for a higher water consumption via the hydraulic unit, that results in the generation increase. The renewed hydraulic unit was equipped with the modern system of control.

20 hydraulic units are installed at the Zhigulevsky water power plant, 6 of which were modernized until 2010. In 2010 RusHydro and Power Machines signed another agreement presupposing the renewal of the rest 14 hydraulic units. After the launch of the hydraulic unit-16 at the Zhigulevsky water power plant, 5 hydraulic units will remain for modernization until 2018. After the completion of the modernization the total capacity of the Zhigulevsky water power plant will grow by 147 mW and will make up 2,448 mW.
