UC Rusal threatens to close two large aliminium plants in Siberia

UC Rusal may close Sayanogorsk and Novokuznetsk aluminium plant in the event of the government not approving a draft decree, which changes the rules of hydropower-plant capacity sale in Siberia, UC Rusal’s deputy general director for energy, Maxim Balashov reported to journalists during a phone conference.

“As you know, the Sayanogorsk and Novokuznetsk aluminium plants work on the verge of profitability, we will have to close them, as we closed some plants in the west, in case of the rules of hydropower-plant capacity sale in the second price zone are not changed,” – Balashov said.
