Hungary needs Russian gas, not Merkel’s lectures

Hungary openly disagrees the EU policy towards Russia, in particular - the prevention of the building of the South Stream gas pipeline project. Pressure from the EU has led to the growth of anti-European sentiments in the country's parliament.

"Hungary can leave the European Union if Brussels will tell us how to run the country," - said the speaker of the National Assembly of Hungary, Laszlo Kever. His words are cited by the agency Euractiv.

After his words, and also after no less strident call of the Hungarian Prime Minister, Viktor Orban to the address of the German Chancellor Angela Merkel, who previously said that Germany would do everything "to steer Hungary on the right path", information on the preparation by Berlin of a plan of political sanctions against Hungary.
