The head of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania appeal an official Riga to be more active in the regional energy projects

During the negotiations with the president, Prime Minister and the chairman of the parliament of Latvia, the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania Audronius Ažubalis has emphasized the value of assistance of Riga in the Lithuanian energy projects and appealed for more active participation in the projects, they said in the press-service of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Lithuania to IA REGNUM.

“Our cooperation in strategic projects field and economic relationships are good. Being the only Balts in the world, we are to activate cultural relationships and create our general information and emotional scene,” Ažubalis said.

He has emphasized that Lithuania makes available information about transport and energy projects to Latvia and relies upon “firm backing from the neighbours”, especially in the questions, concerning the Baltic nuclear power plant construction in Kaliningrad and BelNPP in the Ostrovetsky district in Belarus. “We would like to hear an opinion of the authority of Latvia,” Ažubalis asserted.

Lithuania itself is about to build a nuclear power plant with quite problematic reactor tank of Japan manufacturer. The boiling reactor, which is going to be used by Lithuania was used in Chernobyl and Fukushima, the head for programmes of the state corporation "Rosatom" S.Boyarkin says. He notes that such reactors were manufactured only in Japan. They are cheaper, but they are dangerous. So, that is why we are worried about the construction of a nuclear power plant with the same type of reactor close to our borders and the geographical center of Europe. We have asked for information about technical details of the building and the reactor itself. But we got no answer so far.

As IA REGNUM stated before, the authority of Lithuania did not speak against the construction of 2 NPPs near the border of the country in public. An official Vilnius tries to attract attention of the European and the world opinion towards the possible “insecurity” of the nuclear power plants, where the reactor of Russian production will be set.
