Gazprom Neft has the first flow of shale oil at South-Priobsky deposit

Gazprom Neft-Khantos has completed testing the first two wells drilled at the south license territory of the Priobsky deposit to study the Bazhenov reserves. At both directional wells the hydraulic hydrofracturing of layer has been held, a flow of hydrocarbons received. Soon another two directional wells will be tested.

Gazprom Neft-Khantos has been developing the traditional oil reserves at the South-Priobsky deposit for many years, however, the license for geological study of deep perspective oil bearing layers (Bazhenov and Tyumen Suites) was issued only in March 2014. The layers are located at the depth of 3-3.2 thousand m. Their resources are difficult to extract due to low filtration characteristics of rocks. The Bazhenov and Abalak Suites also refer to the category of non-traditional hydrocarbons reserves and are the analogue of shale oil layers.
