Over 80 exploratory wells to be drilled at the continental shelf of Russia by 2023

​By 2023 it is planned to drill over 80 exploratory wells at the continental shelf of Russia, the Minister of Natural Resources, S. Donskoi, said.

“Within the past year serious efforts have been made on the development of another reserve of new discoveries – continental shelf of Russia, the contribution into which is investment. In total 145 licenses for the shelf sites have been issued. They presuppose significant volumes of works – until 2023 it is necessary to drill over 80 exploratory wells at the shelf. A large-scale exploration has started. In 2014 a large discovery in the Kara Sea at the Universitetskaya structure was made”.

The  Minister said it is necessary to use all the available mechanisms and develop out new ones so as to keep the rates of geological exploration at the shelf.

“The respective order has been made by the Government”, he said.
