Russia needs law on complex development of the Arctic

Russia must regain the leading role in the development of the Arctic, and one of the most important steps in this direction is the adoption of a basic law on the development of the Arctic regions of Russia. This was announced by the Speaker of the Upper House of the Parliament, Valentina Matviyenko at the meeting of the Advisory Council on the Arctic and Antarctic under the Federation Council in the capital of Yakutia on Friday.

"The Arctic is rightly called a global pantry of natural resources. Of course, it, like a magnet, attracts the attention of many countries," - said Matvienko, stressed that Russia can protect its interests in the region "only through the accelerated development of its Arctic territories".
