The RF Ministry of Energy entrusts a share of responsibility for Ukraine's gas debt to the EU.

The EU should take an active role in addressing the issue of the Ukraine's debt repayment for Russian gas, Alexander Novak, the RF Energy Minister stated.

"In early May, we moved to the system of prepayment, but the issue of debt repayment must be solved together with the EU, which, inter alia, should be responsible for what is happening in Ukraine, as it supported the political changes in the country", - A. Novak stated in an interview, which the "Rossiyskaya Gazeta" publishes on Monday.

The Energy Minister said that Kyiv has failed to make the payments for gas since March.

"The situation remains tense, and it worries us in terms of debts payment and the guarantee of gas supplies through Ukraine", - he stressed.

As A.Novak stated if the required volume of gas will not be pumped into underground storage facilities by summer, the Ukrainian side will select gas, even if it is only for the European consumers.
