Special commission to be created to manage the Arctic

A special structure will be created to control the Russian Arctic, the format of which - the Ministry, state committee or governmental commission - will be determined in the near future. The Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Sergei Donskoi and member of the Rosneft’s Board of Directors, the famous polar explorer Arthur Chilingarov supported its creation. According to the Kommersant’s sources in the Government, one of the Deputy Prime Ministers will be entrusted to oversee the structure. Experts believe that Commission with special rights and privileges is more suitable for the operational management of the Arctic territories.

On Friday, the idea of creating a special structure that will deal with the development of the Arctic "as one of the priority areas" was described as "appropriate" by the Minister of Natural Resources and Ecology Sergei Donskoi. "It doesn’t have to be a Ministry, it could be any other body - the commission or agency," - the Minister stated to the TV channel "Russia 24". Let’s recall that on November 20, the Kommersant reported, cited a source in the presidential administration, that the creation of "a structure that would centralize all the work in the Arctic" was discussed at the highest level.
