President of Turkmenistan has approved a program of industrial development of gas bearing region

The President of Turkmenistan, G. Berdymukhamedov, has approved the program of the industrial development of a gas bearing region of the country – the Mary region. The main gas bearing deposits including a large deposit South Iolotan-Osman with the reserves of more than 21 trln cubic meters of gas are located on its territory.
The realization of the complex development program of the region will allow them to implement modern technological production capacities, form competitive production capacities and increase the production growth of import replacing goods, the President said signing a regulation at the Government meeting on Friday. It was held in Mary where the President visited the opening ceremony of the library-observatory.
In the Mary region 29 new industrial enterprises will be built and 11 existing ones will be reconstructed, he said. Gas production diversification, growth of mineral fertilizers production – by 4.8 times, electric energy- by 1.2 times, cotton processing – by 1.2 times, production of non-metallic materials – by 1.7 times, facing construction materials- by 1.3 times, production of food industry – by 1.4 times are presupposed there.
The new industrial enterprises will provide 5,385 work places, ITAR-TASS reports.
The deposits of the Mary region are the main source of gas export to China, Russia and Iran. The largest Mary water power plant provides the East of the country with electricity and exports electric energy to the bordering regions of Iran and Afghanistan.
