EU is ready for a discussion of South Stream at trilateral gas negotiations on Friday

The EU stated that it was ready to discuss the “South Stream” pipeline project with the Ukraine on September 26th, 2014. The gas pipeline is necessary for transportation of gas from Russia to Europe and the reduction of dependence on the countries-gas transiters (Ukraine and Turkey). The South Stream will consist of 4 branches. The approximate value of the project will make up EUR 15.5billion, according to experts.

It became known that the press-secretary of the EU (M.Holzner) said that if Russia touched on this subject, the EU would be ready for its discussion.

They are about to discuss matters, concerning the South Stream gas pipeline during the trilateral negotiations between the spokesmen for the EU, Russia and the Ukraine. Nevertheless, the main topic is solving of the gas dispute between the Ukraine and Russia. It is known the gas conflict started between “Naftogaz Ukrainy” and Gazprom” as far back as in 2005.

On September 19th, A.Novak the RF Minister of Energy said that the Ministry of Energy is about to raise the question on Friday. One of the spokesman for the EU he would like to spoke with is the vice-president of the EU Commission, G.Oettinger.
