Gazprom invites Shell to the Baltic Sea

Shell can become the partner of Gazprom in the construction of the LNG plant in the Baltic Sea. The project is being considered on the background of a holdback in the arrangements about the joint development of shelf and as a possible alternative to the expanding of Sakhalin-2. The plant in the Leningrad Region is intended for European market first of all, thus, Gazprom lags behind its Russian competitors NOVATEK and Rosneft in attraction of the buyers at the most prospective APR market, Kommersant reports.

On Friday the Head of Gazprom Aleksey Miller and the governor of the Leningrad Region Alexander Drozdenko signed a memorandum of construction of a 10 million tons LNG plant in the region. Shell can obtain a share in the project, a source in the industry reported. Aleksey Miller and the Head of BP Robert Dudley also discussed “the prospects of the joint projects”, including LNG projects.
