Russian petrochemical industry shows growth in production in conditions of low oil prices

Against the background of obvious economic downturn in the Russian economy, in 2015, the petrochemical industry showed an increase in production volumes against the general downward trend, the Kommersant reports.

For example, last year, the production of the group Plastics in primary forms grew by 8.1%, while the decline in the industrial production in Russia amounted to 3.4%, according to the Russian Statistics Committee, while processing industries lost 5.4%.

In 2015, the total volume of the polyethylene production in Russia increased by 9% as compared to the same period of 2014 and amounted to 1.591 million tons. The output of polypropylene grew by 23% last year and amounted to 1.275 million tons, and the production of polyvinyl chloride increased by 20% to 783.3 thousand tons.
