Gas supplies from Russia are decided to be cut by using imports from the U.S.

The EU intends not only to impose sanctions against the Russian officials, but also to reduce its dependence on the imported supplies of Russian energy resources - Herman Van Rompuy, the Head of the European Council, announced at the end of the two-day EU summit held in Brussels. Europe plans to replace Russian energy through imports of U.S. shale gas and increasing the share of renewable and nuclear energy. According to the experts, none of these measures can be implemented in the near future, while the summit participants promise to withdraw Eastern European countries from the "energy isolation" in 2015.
