CEO of SUEK: Coal is, always will be one of the main energy resources that forms the economy of Russia

On February 20th in the framework of the Krasnoyarsk economic forum, the delegation headed by the CEO of Suek, V. Rashevsky, visited the Borodinsky coal mine where a billionth ton of coal was extracted. Until now none of the coal mining enterprises in Russia have reached such a production rate.

V. Rashevsky is sure that this is not the limit. Only in the Krasnoyarsk region coal reserves make up about 640 bln tons, at the current extraction rates it will be enough for hundreds of years.

The perspectives of coal production can be viewed not only in the regions where coal is extracted but in the regions far located from the main coal centers of Russia. The Governor of the Murmansk region, M. Kovtun, who also visited the Borodinsky coal mine, said that the region that now uses grease oil as the energy resource, seriously thinks about turning to coal.

Today we receive heat mainly from grease oil, but this is not the most effective type of fuel which can soon become almost deficit. The Murmansk region is to be gasified but the deposits are not developed now, and either gas supply or pipe construction lead to the high increase of the tariff. So today we are to approve a strategy how we will change the fuel and energy balance of the Murmansk region, what type of fuel will dominate.
