Drilling at the Berkut platform within Sakhalin-1 will start on September 27th-28th. The operator of the project is Exxon Neftegaz Limited.

Sakhalin-1 is the first large shelf project executed in Russia on the PSA basis that was closed in 1996. The project presupposes development of the Chaivo, Odoptu and Arkutun-Dagi deposits located at the north-eastern shelf of Sakhalin in the Okhotsk Sea.

The deposits are developed within several stages. The first one presupposes oil development at Chaivo started in 2005 and Odoptu. Since 2014, within the second stage, they have started gas reserves development at Chaivo. The third stage presupposes development of oil reserves of Arkutun-Dagi. The life cycle of the project will last until 2040-2050.
