The updating of the mining-and-smelting sector of Kazakhstan

The updating of the mining and smelting sector of Kazakhstan is aimed at the modernization of the economy of Kazakhstan. Prime Minister of the republic K.Maksimov said during the 5th International mining-and-smelting congress “Astana Mining & Metallurgy”. He has also noted there work about 300 thousand people in the sector and the share of this field in the industrial production makes up about 18%. Though it is of top priority in the state programme of innovative development of the country, it still requires state assistance.

They said, despite the current crisis in the global mining and smelting industry, the metallurgists of Kazakhstan have managed to keep positive dynamics of the development of the sector. Non-ferrous production volume has increased since 2007. Industrial production went up by 2.6% in 2013 year-on-year and exceeded the level of 3.6 trillion tenge.
