EU Commission hopes the gas package for the Ukraine is valid until the decision of Stockholm Court

The deputy chairman of the EU Commission, M. Shefchovich, hopes that the new gas agreement that will be reached between Russia, Ukraine and EU Commission will be valid until the Stockholm Arbitration Court makes the decision.

In June 2014 Gazprom and Naftogas filed claims against each other to the Stockholm Arbitration Court: Gazprom asks to collect the debt and interest for the total amount of $4.5 bln, Naftogas – reconsider the gas price and collect the overpayment of at least $6 bln. These cases were consolidated. The oral hearings should be held in February-March 2016, the final decision is expected in late June 2016.

“We have held a constructive introductory meeting to develop the agreement on the “winter package”. I am glad the parties managed to agree their joint announcement and further steps. Based on that we can work on the intermediary agreement which will be valid until the Stockholm Arbitration Court makes the decision. I was also assured that the transit gas flows to the EU will stay unchanged”, Mr. Shefchovich said.
