In 2003, the Chamber of Accounts audited the financial-economic activity of Bashneft, and established the fact of the theft of shares from the state. According to the inspection of the joint venture by auditor, criminal case was initiated, although later it was suspended. In spring of 2014, it became known about the criminal case, which involves the defendants including the head of AFK Sistema, Vladimir Yevtushenkov,the former head of Bashneft, Ural Rakhimov and the businessman Levon Airapetyan - they are accused of stealing shares of companies, included in the fuel and energy complex of Bashkortostan, and their legalization (p. 4 of the article 160, p. 4 of the article. 174.1 and p. 4 of the article 174 of the Criminal Code). As a part of the investigation, the Basmanny Court of Moscow arrested the shares of Bashneft, Ufaorgsintez and the Bashkir power grid company, owned by AFK Systema.
