Aliev: Turkish Stream is not an obstacle for Azeri gas supply to EU

The Southern Gas Corridor comprises the project of construction of TAP. The gas from Shakh-Deniz is planned to be shipped via Turkey and Greece to Europe.

Turkish Stream is not a competitor of the Southern Gas Corridor, the head of the department for investment of SOCAR, V. Aliev, said.

A. Miller said that the Russian-European consortium might construct the continuation of Turkish Stream via Greece and that it is planned to attract 2 bln euro for the realization of this project.

The Southern Gas Corridor comprises the project of construction of TAP. The gas from Shakh-Deniz is planned to be shipped via Turkey and Greece to Europe. The length of the pipeline is 871 km, the maximum throughput capacity is 10 bln cubic m a year.

Baku promises to ship gas to Europe for decades to come. But for the realization of these plans it is necessary to close the deal on the purchase of the Greece gas transport system of DESFA which is considered by Azerbaijan to be the key element for the TAP project.
