Russia risks losing the Eastern Gas Program.

As "the Kommersant" predicted, "Gazprom", despite the political support of Vladimir Putin, once again failed to reach an agreement with China on gas supplies. The monopoly came close to the line, after which it may lose the potential niche in the Asia-Pacific countries gas market and will be forced to completely revise the Eastern Gas Program. But "Gazprom" still does not want to considerably lower the price, on which Beijing insists.

"Gazprom" has not signed a contract with China's CNPC on gas supplies. The negotiations were held continuously all weekend and Monday, but the Chinese side insists on a lower price - about $ 360 per one thousand cubic meters - and does not make concessions. The arrival of Vladimir Putin in China, who spent an hour and a half talking with the President Xi Jinping, did not help. The presidential press secretary, Dmitry Peskov, and the representatives of "Gazprom" repeated that the talks are in progress and there is a chance to reach an agreement in the coming days. But no one could explain what the problem was. If no agreement would be signed at the St. Petersburg forum, the following politically opportune moment comes only in autumn, when Li Keqiang, the Premier of the State Council of the PRC, arrives in Moscow, "the Kommersant" sources state.
