The capacities of the secondary metallurgy at Novolipetsk Steel Plant are extended.

The Novolipetsk Steel Plant (NLMK) has launched a new installation of circulation degassing with a capacity of 4 million tons of steel per year. The installation intends for getting of high-quality metal before its pouring at the machines of blanks strand casting.

According to NLMK’s press-release, the project realization with the total volume of the investments in the amount of about 3.9 billion rubles will allow to provide the company’s Russian and European rented assets with quality slabs.

With the launch of the installation of high capacity the gauge of the producing steel will be extended on account of the development of the production of the metal’s new grades with  carbon content no more than 0.002%, hydrogen content no more than 0.0001%, including the metal’s grades for shipbuilding, automobile industry and pipe making.

The new installation of circulation degassing on the main production site in Lipetsk is a part of the complex of facility of secondary metallurgy of converter plant’s steel in additional to vacuum vessel (with a capacity of 400 thousand tons), 4 ladle furnace aggregates (with a summary capacity of 12 million tons) and 10 ladle metallurgy facilities.

The project is carried out within the second phase of the NLMK’s technical upgrading program, with participation of SMS Mevac (Germany).

NLMK is the international vertically-integrated metallurgic company, operating with the capacity of more than 15 million tons of melted steel per year.
