VSMPO-Avisma mine is in the area of flooding

The problems of Uralkalii might concern VSMPO-Avisma.

The situation at the mine of Uralkalii where the flooding started n Tuesday is still ambiguous. The water flow is strong, there is a hole with a 40 m diameter near the industrial site. The conclusions can be made not earlier than in a week, experts think. There is a neighboring mine left in the area which is the only source of carnallite in Russia, one of the most important types of raw materials for the titanium producer VSMPO-Avisma. The latter has already saved carnallite for a few months and in the case of problems it plans to organize the supplies from Israel.

The accident at a large mine of Uralkalii – Solikamsk-2 (is shut down due to the flow of salt brine and flooding) – became a reason of a serious sinkhole. To the east of the industrial site, beyond Solikamsk, there is a hole of 30-40 m diameter. A source of Kommersant familiar with the situation says that water keeps coming (its flow is about 5 thousand cubic m an hour) but the pumps can deal with it. According to the CEO of the Mining Academy UrO RAN: A. Baryakh, meanwhile based on the place of salt brine coming one can say that the accident is directly connected with the earthquake on an 5th 1995.
