Medvedev: South Stream to allow us to avoid gas transit through the Ukraine

The Nord Stream pipeline is one of guarantees of reliable supplies of Russian gas to Europe, and in the case of the South Stream launch, the supplies will cease to depend on the situation in the Ukraine at all, said Russian Prime Minister, Dmitry Medvedev in interview with Bloomberg.

"I would like to draw attention to the fact that one of the guarantees that all remain normal for the Europeans, everything will be all right, is the presence of Nord Stream. If we can launch South Stream in the coming years, we, strictly speaking, won’t need the transit through the Ukraine, although we understand that the Ukraine needs it," - said Medvedev.
