Turkmenistan continues to move on the European gas vector

In recent years, the European Union, counting on resources of the Caspian region, especially Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan, has actively promoting the project of Southern Gas Corridor, a part of which can be a project for the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. It is expected that one of variants of the route may be laying the pipe under the Caspian Sea from Turkmenbashi in Turkmenistan to Sangachal on the coast of the Absheron Peninsula in Azerbaijan.

Turkmenistan, which found the fourth-largest natural gas reserves in the world, is one of the key players on the energy market in the Caspian region and Central Asia and is interested in finding new markets, particularly in Europe. And in this aspect the pipeline route to Europe via the Caspian Sea is considered by Azerbaijan one of the most attractive. At the initiative of the Brussels, the EU, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan negotiate on the construction of the Trans-Caspian gas pipeline. In order to implement this project, the Turkmen side expressed its readiness to conduct an appropriate environmental impact assessment with the participation of international experts.
