Hungary delays signing of long-term contract with Russia

Hungary has delayed signing of long-term gas contract with Russia for a year or two, the Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban said an interview with the Kommersant.

According to him, the current deferral provides supply of gas to Hungary for about four or five years, and this suits Budapest. "I think we made the right decision not to conclude a new long-term agreement, - Viktor Orban said. - No one knows what prices will be on the international market. Today, the market is very nervous, the situation is constantly changing. We have to wait a year or two until everything settles down. And then we'll see on what conditions we can negotiate on long-term agreements. Until then, redistribution of gas will solve our problems".
