Gazprom has discussed gas supply to the Korean peninsula with South Korea and KOGAS

On September 15th 2011 at the central office of Gazprom a working meeting of A. Miller and the Minister of Energy of North Korea K. H. Yeon took place. The managers discussed the issues of the realization of the pipeline gas supply project from Russia to the Korean peninsula.
A. Miller and K.H. Yeon discussed the conditions of the practical organization of works on the project of pipeline supplies of the Russian gas from Russia to Korea.
In July Russia suggested the organization of gas supplies to Korea hoping to shut down the North Korean nuclear program.
North Korea has also confirmed the possibility of gas transport to South Korea via its territory.
The agreement on the project was reached by the President Medvedev and K.I. Sen as a result of the meeting in Ulan-Ude in August 2011.
Both parties agreed on the forming of a working group to realize the project and also working out other perspective directions of cooperation.
A. Miller and K.H. Yeon mentioned the importance of supporting the construction of the gas pipeline by the Governments of both countries, as well as soon working out and signing the intergovernmental agreement on the issues of the project’s realization.
As a result of the meeting between Gazprom and the ministry of oil industry of Korea a memorandum of understanding was signed.
Practical agreements with Korea open for Gazprom the possibility of gas transport to South Korea.
The technological process of gas supply organization to South Korea is settled by Gazprom in the operative way.
Having held the negotiations with North Korea, A. Miller went on the discussion with Kogas.
After the discussion of the agreements between Gazprom and Korea, A. Miller and C.K. Su signed the road map on the realization of the project and also discussed the issues of organization of the practical works on its execution.
I wish it were so smooth with China as well.
In the conditions of the volatile situation with gas supplies, the successful negotiations with North Korea and Kogas is very good news.
Why does Gazprom need to supply gas to Korea?
